Get To know This Century

The band's self-titled, five-song EP is best heard blasting through your speakers. In up-tempo tunes like In Progress, TC combines a guitar-heavy introduction with perfectly smooth vocals. In Progress is a fan favorite, receiving the majority of the listens on the band's myspace. The second track, A Need for Charity, offers appealingly drawn-out words that swim through guitar riffs and a prominent drum beat. Overall, This Century's first-ever disk is certainly worth the $3.99 it is sold for on iTunes.
According to guitarist Sean Silverman, the band's favorite part of music is "performing new songs live. There's this overwhelming feeling of anticipation every time we try something new." Jokingly, he adds, "Being on Dancing with the Stars would be nice. We all have our dreams."
All of This Century's members hail from Arizona high schools. Van Ruskin (guitar) and Joel Kanitz (vocals) graduated from New School for the Arts in Tempe in 2007, and Alex Silverman (bass) is an NSA senior. Ryan Gose (drums), who attends MCC with Van, is a graduate of Skyline in Mesa, and Sean is a 2005 Horizon grad and now attends ASU.
The bandmates look forward to the day when they can devote themselves entirely to the band.
When the time is right, Sean says, "we hope to be able to create music full time."
