Down To Know Down To Flo (DTF)

Dylan Kaminsky is Cashmons and Mickie Zobel is McSwaggr, now where do your rap names come from?
Cash: In Weigh-training class two guys thought my shoes were money and so they called them “Cash Money” or “Cashmons” for shorter.
McSw: McSwaggr kind of sounds like Mick Jagger, who’s a rockstar, but I would like to be rapstar. Rap these days is all about the swagger, and it’s kind of a play on words.
So where did the idea of DTF come from?
McSw: It came from Cash because he just liked the acronym DTF.
Cash: But it was a little inappropriate, so…a minor adjustment was needed.
McSw: So we changed it to, well actually we didn’t really change it we just made it Down To Flo, and it just made sense.
Alrighty, then where do the topics of your songs come from?
McSw: We put together the beat, then you see what kind of vibe you get from that beat, and then from the vibe you get from it you get a theme, and then whatever that theme is you just write lyrics about that.
You guys performed Shawty Get Dizzy at the AzValenTeen Bash ‘09, now where did that song come from?Cash: Well we were trying to come up with a dance that’s like Get Silly and Crack That, so…Shawty Get Dizzy.
McSw: Shawty Get Dizzy is a mind set, a dance move, and a way of life.
Cash: And a state of mind.
McSw: Yeah, uh, mind set Cash. We wanted a song that will get you moving, so to speak.
Your MySpace says you “two write, rap, record, and produce” your own music. Exactly how long is that entire process?
McSw: (to Cash) To make one song?
Cash: Two days.
McSw: At the most? Nah, at the least! At the most probably it could be a week.
Are you guys working on an album?
McSw: We are. We’re putting together an album. We don’t know what it’s going to be called yet. But we’re thinking of just self titling it DTF by DTF.
So what rappers/singers/rockers would you compare yourselves to?
Cash: This is hard.
McSw: You don’t want to say that you’re as good as them. But our influences…
Cash: …T-Pain, some Kanye West…
McSw: …Lil’ Wayne, gotta have the Weezy. Little bit of T.I., maybe some Jay-Z even. All of those rappers are influential to us.
So what would the fans of DTF be known as?Cash: DTFers, obviously.
McSw: It sounds, uh, dirty. Or just insulting. “Stupid DTFer!”
Besides rapping, what other talents does DTF have?
McSw: Cashmons is a hella dancer.
Cash: I am a dancer.
McSw: He can actually do some crazy stuff. I do a lot of writing, I’m into rapping. We actually have some tracks with some singing involved.
Cash: We kinda do it all, a little bit of everything.
If you guys could go on tour who would you guys open up for?
Cash & McSw: Lil’ Wayne.
…Who would open up for you?
Cash & McSw: T-Pain.
Have you ever forgotten any of your lines?
McSw: I actually did at the AzValenTeen performance. I didn’t necessarily forget the lines, but I kind of changed them to what they weren’t. The backup vocals didn’t say what I said, so it made it look like I forgot my lines.
Cash: But no one noticed anything.
For those who haven’t heard of DTF how would you describe DTF to them?
Cash: Up-beat.
McSw: Fun mainstream kind of group with our own spinzznile.
In 8 Mile Eminem has a stage moment where he rap battles, would you ever do that and who against?
Cash: Anyone in the world.
McSw: I’ve actually have been in a couple of battles recently.
Cash: You won.
McSw: Against anyone, probably, Shaquille O’Neal because I heard he can spit, and I’d like to see that.
Do you have anything you’d like to say to your fans?
Cash: Thank-you. That’s all I have.
McSw: Thank-you and I want to kiss your face!
And with that the DTF men were asked one final question. Their response however had to be recorded in order to show how legit their rapping skills truly are. Watch and enjoy what the DTF has to offer.
