With an original blend of pop rock music and thought provoking lyrics, Last November is quickly gaining national recognition. The Atlanta-based band released its first album, All the Gory Details, in 2005 and was picked up by Southern Track Records just a year later, in 2006. Now, in 2009, with a new album released, their star is still on the rise. With the likes of Steven Haigler (Brand New, Fuel, Oleander) and Rodney Mills (Pearl Jam, Butch Walker, Lynyrd Skynyrd) working with them on the album, Over the Top or Under the Weather has taken Last November to a whole new level. Catchy titles like The Bumper Sticker Song and Seventeen at Three in the Morning deliver not only great beats, but intelligent lyrics too. Lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter Luke Pilgrim says his songwriting has been influenced by both classic (The Beatles, The Eagles, Tom Petty) and modern artists (Conor Oberst, John Mayer). And of course he also derives inspiration from life in general. It is this kind of musical diversity that has attracted so many fans to Last November. The following interview is with lead singer and guitarist Luke Pilgrim.

1. What kind of music do you like to listen to when you’re not making your own? Are there any specific artists you prefer?
I recently bought the new Butch Walker record. So I've been wearing that out for a while. But I listen to all kinds of music. Petty, Eagles, Beatles, Jimmy Eat World, The Format, and I've been listening to Cassadaga by Bright Eyes a lot recently. Sometimes I even just put it on the country station and see what’s on.

2. I’ve read that the band likes to speak in movie quotes. What’s your all-time favorite movie?
Oh man I don't know if I can pick a fave. The Big Lebowski is a classic one we quote a lot. But lately we've been quoting Suberbad, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Pineapple Express and even Baby Mama, haha. And we quote Dumb & Dumber a lot too.

3. What’s the one food that you must have when you’re on the tour bus?
Cheez-It crackers.

4. Do you and the band have any unique habits that you do during rehearsals?
We have a pretty funny vocal warm up that sounds like a car starting. Haha and we do a choreographed dance to "Age of Aquarius"

5. You guys shot your own music video for “Seventeen at Three in the Morning”. That must have been hectic. What was the craziest thing that happened during the shoot?
Shooting the video was probably the most stressful thing I've ever done. We kind of brought it on ourselves though. We decided to teach 50 to 75 kids how to clap and stomp in unison. Then we decided to do a waltz/dance scene where people had to spin a certain way etc. It was crazy. But all the volunteers were so awesome. We had a great time.

6. You’ve been playing the guitar since you were 11. Are you self-taught or did you take lessons?
My cousin Matt taught me most of what I know about the guitar.

7. I know you’re influenced by the Beatles. What are some modern artists that you turn to for inspiration?
I'd say Jimmy Eat World and Jack's Mannequin. I'm also a big Foo Fighters fan. I think Dave Grohl is amazing.

8. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
If the swine flu hasn't gotten me by then, or there isn't a zombie attack, I see myself playing music. And doing tours in other countries hopefully. But I also enjoy production so I'd like to produce bands/artists in the future too.

9. Of all the musicians the band has shared the stage with, who’s your favorite?
We played a show with Mute Math in Greenville, South Carolina. They put on an amazing show.

10. Is there anything that your band mates do that grosses you out?
Yeah, everything. Haha, actually this is kind of sad. Tyler has been sick lately. So he coughs a lot. But at practice the other day he coughed until he puked.... like all in his hands. I felt so bad for him. But it was pretty nasty!
