The Librarian

Darkness falls across the colorful, tall trees,
But moonlight casts long shadows
The characters and creatures begin to sleep.

Alice folds her cards
Juliet sheathes her sword
Charlotte finishes her weaving

The door closes on the forest.
The oak bathes in the moonlight,
Holding up its ink-covered leaves.

captain sinks into the abyss
prince returns home
cat cleans his mess

The orderly, bound foliage
--neat, ready for inspection--
standing upright in tall salute

we’ve passed through Hell
left California
been to the other end of the universe

Woods prepare for sleep,
The caretaker softly walks the aisles,
Quietly collecting fallen leaves.

the mystery has been solved
verdict has been proclaimed
raven has fallen silent

No glimpse of the sun remains,
the jungle is no longer in disarray.
The librarian exits into the night.
