Stillness Like Winter

your words twist like spectral angels

crawling along chaste white walls;

storms-laden nights slumber over your ribcage,

scabs like back stars and skin indented with jangling autumn cries

(pressing my face to you and i hear waves flowing, ebbing).

i sigh. the ocean seems to beg, listen closely, you'll hear silence speaking.

and your eyelashes coil like bruised skies; i lift my face closer to you.

black erupts into curled wings of eve's butterflies.

stillness like winter lurks behind your eyes

and with each breath, i'll watch you awaken quiescence-hued
