Is Prom Worth The Money?

In the high school world, one of the most anticipated events of the year is prom. Many of us count down the days and even start planning out the night months in advance. Whether it is asking or getting asked in the cutest way, finding the perfect dress (that no other girl will have), wearing the pimpest tux or riding in the sickest limo, there is no doubt that juniors and seniors look forward to the final dance of the year.

Bottom line: Prom is expensive. When you break it down, the dance itself is only four hours long, and yet by the end of the night you may have spent $500 or more. This brings up the question of whether or not prom is even worth going to.

I say yes.

It’s one of the few times that you are able to enjoy yourself while being surrounded by so many people from your school. This is especially important for those who are seniors and graduating just a month after the event. You can cut costs. Borrow a dress, skip the limo rental, share expenses with a large group of friends.

But skip prom altogether? If you’re a senior, this will be your last dance of high school, probably your last dance ever. Dramatic, but true. So if having a memorable and great time calls for a mountain of expenses, I say go for it. Enjoy this event, one of your last in high school and one you’ll remember forever, before throwing your cap in the air.
