Lifts and Leaps of Love

Lacey Sturdivant, ‘10, and her partner Drew Johns, ‘08, gave an amazing performance in Desert Vista’s High School’s Winter Showcase, Winter Wonderland during the 2007 school year. Though there is no real-life romance brewing between them, their dancing portrayed great chemistry as well as talent and dedication.
Lacey started dancing when she was three years old after seeing a ballet and being awe-struck by the dancers' elegance and beauty. She started dancing with her best friend Maggie, at Bodies in Motion, in first grade, and is still dancing there today. Drew became interested in dancing in sixth grade when he took a required dance class. He had such a great time taking dance in middle school that he has pursued his gifts through high school and sees dance as an incredible form of expression.
Ballet is unique as dancers reveal great emotion through difficult extensions and lifts while maintaining a high level of composure and poise. Ballet is a dance that reaches for perfection, as the meaning and emotion of a story being told can easily become confused without the remarkable accuracy and self control of each dancer. Lacey and Drew take each performance very seriously, practicing hours on end to deliver a truly moving portrayal of each character.
Both Lacey and Drew plan to pursue a career in dance after they graduate- Lacey with plans for a spot with the well-known precision dance company The Rockettes, and Drew with an ambition to one day become a back up dancer for a professional singer.
