Camp Broadway at ASU Gammage

As one of the top tour stops in the country, the Gammage gave them an ideal look into the behind the scenes work. Early on Wednesday morning, the children started a tour that showed them the different aspects that were required to put on a show. From press management to the box office, they were offered a brief question and answer segment with representatives for each department.
A favorite stop amongst the children was definitely the backstage tour. The acclaimed show, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" was currently performing, and the stage manager was more than happy to give everyone a run through of all the ins and outs of backstage work. The kids got to see the magic that made the flying car soar above the stage, as well as the truly scrumptious sweets from the sweet shop.
As the tour came to an end, the camp lunch began. At each table, a cast member from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" sat to talk with the campers and answer some of their questions. After eating a lunch of parmesan chicken and salad, they finished off their meal with cheesecake and a short question and answer discussion with the cast members. A great array of questions were asked, such as "how much do you get paid?" and "why did you become an actor?" It was obvious by the tone of the questions and answers that the lunch had been enjoyed by not only the campers, but the “Chitty” cast as well.
There was never a dull moment with the campers. As soon as lunch finished, they were darting off to a rehearsal. Around thirty girls took to the stage for a rigorous dance rehearsals, consiting of all sorts of twists and turns. Even though they were working hard, there were smiles plastered upon their faces. At the end of the day, they had received a great lesson in not only theatre, but responsibility and commitment as well.
