“Your message is completely anonymous. Nobody will ever find out!” This is the phrase posted on Myspaces’ newest craze: The Truth box. A little box where you can write exactly how you feel about a person, without them ever finding out. It’s the truth box, and it’s all about letting people know everything you dislike about them, without any personal consequences. One tiny box, that has the potential to hurt so much. The strangest part of all this is that people voluntarily put these on their Myspace pages. Why would a person knowingly make themselves feel bad? But than again, why wouldn’t you want to know what people think about you? I knew there were both lovers and haters for the truthbox, but I wanted to know “why?’ Why did people support it enough to put one on their own pages? And why were there some who swore against it?

I figured the only way to truly understand the effects of the truthbox was to talk to my peers. So I did just that, I looked from Washington High School to Xavier, from Shadow Mountain to Corona. I listened to the newbies ( Freshman) I heard from the oldies (seniors) and then I got all the kids in between.

There were those who liked it..

I like the truthbox cause it gives people a chance to tell someone the truth without having to deal with any drama because it is all anonymous. Some people take it really seriously and really say what they think or other people make it a complete joke and some of the things they end up saying are actually pretty funny. The funny part is they know who they are talking to but the person who received the message still has no clue who they are talking to. It's almost like a game to try and figure out who it is.

- Chantel Siegal Xavier, 2010

What I like about the truthbox is the fact that you can hear the brutal truth without getting offended by one specific person. It’s a great way to find out what people don’t like about you... its a reality check.

-Kim Willamson, Arcadia, 2011

“Why not, if people really care for the "deep, dark" truthful thoughts of others, then let 'em have it.”

-Carolina Lopez, Horizon High School, 2010

"Its what our founding fathers wanted us to have"

-Joseph Harris, Corona Del High School

those who didn’t..

Cowardly is the word that comes to mind whenever I think about the Truth Box that is available on Myspace now. If I had something negative to say to someone, the Truth Box would be my last option.. Saying whatever you want over the internet is bad enough but the Truth Box is just sinking to a new level. The Truth Box is sneaky and tempting but in the end I would rather listen to my parents advice they use to give me when I was younger. “Don’t let what other people say to you bring you down.” The Truth Box is just another way to lower self esteem.

-Sarah White Shadow Mountain, 2010

I think that the truth box can hurt people's feelings and that it is not a good idea.

-Sophie Cohen Chaparal High School, 2010

The Truth Box is just another excuse for the fourteen year olds to make fun of each other anonymously.

- Anthony Cinquepalmi, Brophy, 2009

It empowers bullies to say whatever they want without consequence to them. There has already been many reported suicides due to myspace bullying It could end up hurting a lot of people. Therefore, the myspace truth box will only cause trouble, and is a bad idea

- Franciscio Chavira Washington High School, 2011

those who couldn’t quite make up their minds..

Truthboxes can be great at times. Admit it, everyone loves getting compliments. But when people use them to take out their anger on you, they can really hurt your feelings and self esteem.

-Stefani Jones, Chaparral 2010

I tried to scour the valley to hear everyones opinions but I couldn’t get them all, I need yours. If you have something to say about this topic or are interested in giving me a piece of your mind on future topics let me know! Write in, after all I want to hear from ALL my peers.

Sex, Money, Politics…
Everything impolite to bring up at the
dinner table, I’m bringing to the table.

In today’s world there are so many issues that are taboo to talk about, it’s hard to find out what’s really right or wrong. My aim of this blog is to find the juiciest, wildest, most controversial issues and let you at them. I want to know who’s a die-hard Republican or who thinks sex before marriage is a sin. I want to hear from the myspace truthbox addicts and those who think there is a double standard between guys and girls. Not only will you be able to share your opinion, you’ll get to see what others think as well, because as teenagers we tend to think we’re the only ones who are right, when in truth someone else could have the facts that pull you to the other side of the picket lines. This blog is all about being heard, and hearing too. So what are you waiting for, got something to say?
